چکیده
This paper makes use of spaceborne observational data sets in order to characterize radiative processes involved spring time heat waves the Sahel. Spring corresponds hottest period year, with a high aerosol load, gradual moistening, and presence clouds contributing greenhouse effect. Heat are defined as synoptic events that have large spatial extent duration longer than 3 days. Two types studied: daytime waves, detected daily maximum temperature nighttime minimum temperature. Daytime correspond situations where cloud optical thickness is lower climatology number these also associated load drier atmosphere. Nighttime moister atmosphere compared climatology. In fraction them, an increase loading observed. study, only based on sets, highlights subtle but different balance at play both events.

Reconciling different observational data sets from Surface Heat Budget of the Arctic Ocean (SHEBA) for model validation purposes
[1] Observations from the Surface Heat Budget of the Arctic Ocean (SHEBA) are analyzed to develop a consistent data set suitable for the validation of snow and sea ice components used in climate models. Since the snow depth is a crucial variable to properly determine the ice thickness evolution, several methods are tested to estimate the actual snow depth at the exact location of the measured i...
متن کاملLearning from Point Sets with Observational Bias
Many objects can be represented as sets of multidimensional points. A common approach to learning from these point sets is to assume that each set is an i.i.d. sample from an unknown underlying distribution, and then estimate the similarities between these distributions. In realistic situations, however, the point sets are often subject to sampling biases due to variable or inconsistent observa...
متن کاملFrom Massive Data Sets
With hardware advances in scientiic instruments and data gathering techniques comes the inevitable ood of data that can render traditional approaches to science data analysis severely inadequate. The traditional approach of manual and exhaustive analysis of a data set is no longer feasible for many tasks ranging from remote sensing, astronomy, and atmospherics to medicine, molecular biology, an...
متن کاملSelection from Structured Data Sets
A large body of work studies the complexity of selecting the j-th largest element in an arbitrary set of n elements (a.k.a. the select(j) operation). In this work, we study the complexity of select in data that is partially structured by an initial preprocessing stage and in a data structure that is dynamically maintained. We provide lower and upper bounds in the comparison based model. For pre...
متن کاملLearning Optimal Policies from Observational Data
Choosing optimal (or at least better) policies is an important problem in domains from medicine to education to finance and many others. One approach to this problem is through controlled experiments/trials but controlled experiments are expensive. Hence it is important to choose the best policies on the basis of observational data. This presents two difficult challenges: (i) missing counterfac...
